The BSWSA kicked off its first General Body Meeting early this semester! We wanted to give our members a look at our plans for the academic year, starting with our new mission statement:
The VCU Bachelor's in Social Work Student Association aims to foster connections among the next generation of social workers and those passionate about social justice, as well as engage with the greater Richmond community.
We also began drafting our group norms and values. This semester, the BSWSA will strive to meet the values displayed on the image to the right!
We followed this up by telling members what they can expect from this semester:
1.) General body meetings: These will serve as more informational sessions where we will chat with the entirety of the club about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and share perspectives on our work! These events will additionally be social and expect there to be food at these events!
2.) Special Event Nights: These events are more social in nature and provide networking opportunities for members of the club. These include our field experience night, game night, and our winter potluck!
3.) Volunteer experiences: As stated in our mission statement, we seek to engage with the broader Richmond area to uplift our community, and network within it. This will primarily occur through volunteer experiences curating in partnership with Richmond agencies. More information will be given out as the semester progresses!
4.) Panel Discussions: Held twice throughout the academic year, we will bring professionals across the field of social work together to answer a set of questions about their work to enlighten the next generation of social workers about potential areas of interest.
